Artist Profile

Hello! Here you will find more about me, my process and my story so far.

I hope you enjoy...

My Journey

I work from my studio near Bath, England. Being an artist and producing beautiful abstract paintings is what I live for.

I aim to convey a purity and calmness through my minimalist designs and restrained colour pallets. Although my artwork has a very modern aesthetic, I want it to be an antidote to the busy and frantic nature of the modern world. I hope it invites a moment of serenity when proudly displayed in your home or office... a chance to feel calm, to take a breath.

I consider my art style to be Hard-Edge Minimalism. My artwork is abstract, geometric and minimalist; an exploration of shape, scale and composition. Abstract and minimal, with a sense of order and a calming nature.

All of my paintings start life as a simple line drawing in a gridded notebook, this is my primary exploration of shape and form: all ideas start here and are developed and refined until a select few of them eventually become finished paintings.

My medium of choice is acrylic on canvas, applied with a wide flat brush leaving a visible brushstroke texture which makes each of my paintings truly original: almost like each piece has its own fingerprint. I use a restrained colour pallet of black and white or neutrals: only using bold colours when I feel it enhances a composition and what I'm trying to say.

I am greatly inspired by mid 20th century American and European artists, design and architecture: especially artists from the various purely abstract art movements such as Post-Painterly Abstraction, Hard-Edge and Color Field.

Having studied Pharmaceutical Science at a London university I have no formal degree level art education- I am proudly self-taught... I believe that being an artist is something that you are born to do; is refined and developed through hours of practical experience, self study and personal reflection. I do believe however that my science education has given my artwork an interesting influence.

I am really excited for my current collection, 'Clarity', that I am working hard on: with more pieces to be add to my store soon. You are welcome to subscribe to my newsletter to be notified when I post new artwork, and also receive a discount code... I hope to be able to welcome you as a new collector soon!

My Materials

I use excellent artist quality linen and cotton canvases from Italy and Belgium. These canvases are usually either fine grain or extra fine grain and in the 300gsm-400gsm range. I use both primed and raw canvas for my artworks.

The paint I use for my paintings is a top quality artist acrylic paint from Switzerland, it is deemed ‘extra fine grade’. The paint has a lightfast rating of at least 100 years under museum lighting, a very high pigment load and a semi-matte finish unless stated otherwise: meaning the paint will be rich and stable for many years to come.

The stretcher bars I use for my paintings are museum quality & made from 100% PEFC certified, kiln dried pine. The bars are a reassuring 65mm wide, they are finger-jointed and triple-laminated: this removes the natural tendency of the wood to twist or warp due to changes in heat and humidity.

All of my canvases are bespoke. They are hand assembled either by myself or a bespoke canvas maker I use in Gloucester, England. You won’t be able to tell the difference between our work however as I use the same technique as the bespoke canvas maker and I can absolutely match their highly professional standards. All of my raw canvas paintings are assembled and stretched by me personally.

The majority of my artwork is framed. The frames I use are bespoke tray frames (often called floating frames) and are made to order by a local framer in central Bath. They use excellent quality mouldings and work to an excellent standard.
